From a Roanoke Times article of April 10, 1998, reporting on WUVT's 50th Anniversary:

...[S]tudent disc jockey Tom Blaisdell played the first song on WUVT called "The Elks Parade".

Blaisdell was a member of the first WUVT staff that included general manager Joe Ayers and assistant Ed Talmadge. Fourteen people were on that staff - about one-tenth the number of people the station currently employs.
