A major motion picture was made about a portion of the life of what early-'70s Roanoke radio personality?

Adrian Cronauer, the subject of the 1988 Robin Williams movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" was an announcer on Roanoke's WPVR(FM), playing easy listening/beautiful music in the early '70s. He did part-time air work and served for two years as the Station Manager there.

Mr. Cronauer later went to law school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was given the 1992 Ohio State Award for a special program on National Public Radio about the role of military radio during the Vietnam War and two 1991 Gold Medals from the New York Radio Festival.

He practiced information and communications law for almost twelve years with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Burch and Cronauer. He took a position in 2001 with the new Bush Administration and is Special Assistant to the Director of the Pentagon's POW/MIA Office.

Mr. Cronauer told the WUVT Alumni Page that he worked part-time at the present-day WVTF(FM) when it was still called WVWR(FM) and was run by and located on the campus of Virginia Western Community College. "I did the morning show there before NPR started Morning Edition."
