Stories: "Quiet, numbskulls! I'm broadcasting!"

From Russ Marshall:

One day (probably 1969) I was in the studio while Jim Tedder (air name Ted James) was doing his show. This was in the temporary building. There were some workmen in the building repairing something, who were totally oblivious to the need to keep the noise down. Jim was reading the weather or something, when all of a sudden, they fired up a loud drill ... almost totally drowning him out. Jim kept his composure and just kept right on reading ... and fired off the next record. He then took off his headphones and yelled out "Would you stop all that %$#@*& noise out there?" I then pointed up to the brightly lit on-the-air sign in front of him. Jim, who always took pride in being very professional and in control, turned purple ... got up from his chair, and ran out the front door. I took over the board ... and the show went on.
