The first WUVT/WNRV Van met with its demise on a wintry day on Brush Mountain. Mike Williams explains...
How can I forget. A good question would be who totaled the first
WNRV van? Answer: me with Kevin O'Connor as a passenger. Remember, we
had to get to get rid of the couch in the hall outside engineering. We
were taking it to one of the Squires janitors. It was cloudy in B'Burg
but we ran into snow, sleet and freezing rain as we passed the top of Brush Mountain. It was rather slippery. The van flipped twice. The state
trooper even fell when he got out of the police car. I always wondered
if Mrs. [Megan] McWilliams [WNRV President] and Mr. [Bob] Whitehead [WNRV General Manager] were mad at me for wrecking it.
The first van (pictured at left after the accident) was red and white with a red WNRV logo. The second van was painted Hokie (burnt) orange with maroon lettering designating both stations, and the Mutual logo on the doors.
